There’s Something In The Water

July 18, 2018

I know that many of you can relate to the benefits you receive when you spend the day at the beach, especially when it comes to purifying your skin. I can speak from experience on many many occasions when all I needed was to spend the day in the ocean and my skin would clear up, one time I had a annoying spot on the bottom of my foot, and just like that, gone! I assume it’s the combination of the salt water and sun, the exfoliation from the sand particles etc, so I wanted to know more and I did a little research to see if my theory would was true, here is a little of what I did learn.

Sea salt is packed with healthy skin-friendly minerals like magnesium, calcium, and potassium, which is exactly what makes it so beneficial to various skin conditions. It absorbs the toxins in the body and on the skin, including acne-causing bacteria, and works to treat infections and encourage the healing process.

Historically, doctors would recommend their patients go to the seaside to improve various ills. They would actually issue prescriptions detailing exactly how long, how often and under what conditions their patients were to be in the water. Ocean water differs from river water in that it has significantly higher amounts of minerals, including sodium, chloride, sulphate.

Sea air is charged with healthy negative ions that builds our body’s capacity to absorb more oxygen as well! Which probably explains why we always feel so much more relaxed when we are near the ocean! I have to say, growing up in Atlantic Canada has made it impossible for me to imagine living anywhere that wouldn’t be accessible to ocean water, I love love love the beach, and now I know that its many benefits make for a healthier lifestyle too!

Hope you enjoyed this little article! Have a wonderful day lovelies
